Welcome to the Lake Wingra Watershed Webpage! We're here to provide information to the residents and friends of the Watershed. Lake Wingra is in Madison, Wisconsin, and is a popular spot for boating, fishing, swimming, and just enjoying nature. Lake Wingra is a surprisingly natural lake in the midst of a city, thanks to the Arboretum and other greenspace around it. It has retained a relatively good water quality because there are no rivers flowing in, so all waters in the lake come from rain or the springs which surround the lake.

The biggest threats to Lake Wingra today are caused by the urban neighborhoods that drain to the lake (its watershed). Because the watershed is 75% urban, the rainwater that runs down to the lake includes leaves, road sand, debris, and other contaminants. Efforts to address these issues and protect and restore Lake Wingra are going strong - we invite you to come look further at what's going on in the watershed, and how you can help!
