LTC and the Center for Applied Biodiversity Science, the scientific research hub for Conservation International, entered into a research collaboration that will assess climate change impacts on the tropical Andes. On the LTC side, the research is led by Jack Williams (Geography).
The goal is to produce high-resolution climate change scenarios for Bolivia, Colombia, Ecuador, and Peru. The modeling will help experts plan for likely biodiversity threats, including the possibility of disappearing climates.
Dr. Williams contributed to a study presented at the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change in Bali. According to the study, it is likely that more than half the world's protected areas is vulnerable to impacts of climate change. See the research team's factsheet.
His work represents a collaboration between LTC and the Center for Climatic Research, another research center within the Nelson Institute.
